Project Managing the Burnley College Website

One of my most significant projects has been the recent launch of the new Burnley College website. Over the past three and a half years, I have led the effort to bring the website’s development in-house, helped to establish an internal web team, and provided strategic guidance for the site’s creation and launch.

The project began with an in-depth analysis of the extensive website data, which was instrumental in identifying the underperforming areas of the previous site. I dedicated a substantial amount of time to undertake data analysis to ensure the new site would be data-driven and tailored to meet the behaviour patterns of the target audiences. This data-driven segmentation laid a solid foundation for the new website.

The website needed to appeal to a wide range of different customer groups ranging from school leavers, University students and adult learners. Given these diverse audience segments, the site needed flexible design elements to offer tailored user interfaces that resonate with each specific audience. This required careful attention to both visual appeal and functionality, resulting in creating pages that not only look aesthetically pleasing but are also optimised for user engagement.

A major component of the project involved setting up accurate website tracking, ensuring all website data was captured precisely. This included creating new custom events to track and report significant user actions on the site, enabling us to monitor and measure key interactions of each stage of the customer journey effectively.

Coordinating and consulting on this large-scale project required extensive collaboration across multiple internal and external teams. The focus on data-driven development and comprehensive tracking requirements made the Burnley College website launch one of my most comprehensive and enjoyable projects to date.
